Joe T. Floyd

Joe T. Floyd, age 87 of Gatesville, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022.

Funeral services, with Air Force military honors, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Levi Price officiating.  Private family interment will follow at Gatesville City Cemetery.  Visitation with Joe’s family will be from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 3^rd at the funeral home.

Joe Travis Floyd was born on November 26, 1934, in the Pecan Grove community of Coryell County to the late Howard and Gladys Ogle Floyd. He graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1954.  After graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving until 1957.  Joe married Carolyn Winkler on September 4, 1958.  He worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller for 32 years in San Antonio and Houston, retiring in 1986.   In 1993, he and his wife moved back to Gatesville.  He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, H. P. Floyd, John Floyd, Raymond Floyd, Tom Floyd; and a sister, Bernice Schoenewolf.

Joe is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Floyd; children, Sandra Deen Johnson and husband, Steve; David Floyd; Tamara Floyd Williford and husband, Wade; sister, Pauline Young; brother, Bill Floyd; eight grandchildren; Gary Deen and wife, Krista; Travis Deen and wife, Misty; Brent Deen and wife, Rebecca; Jessica Floyd, Shannon Gardner and husband, Kelly; Kaley Consford and fiancé, Rolando Reyna, Kyle Consford, Hannah Williford; nine great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family has designated memorials to be made to Alzheimer’s Texas, 7719 Wood Hollow Dr., Ste. #157, Austin, TX 78731 or First Baptist Church, 912 E. Main Street, Gatesville, TX 76528.
