John “Johnny” Durward Plaster, Jr. of Temple, passed away October 14, 2024, at the age of 80.
Mr. Plaster was born August 1, 1944, in Temple, Texas, the son of the late John Durward and Lucile (Weathers) Plaster, Sr. He was reared in Temple and later moved to Ft. Walton Beach, Florida where he completed high school. For over seven years, he proudly served in the United State Navy and continued to show his love of God and his country throughout his lifetime; including writing poems of the anger and sadness he felt following the 911 tragedy. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked with various construction companies all over the state of Florida until he returned to Texas to help build part of Scott and White Hospital before retiring and settling in Temple, Texas.
Throughout his life, John enjoyed riding motorcycles, camping, fishing and drinking beer with his buddies. Like his mother, John had a gift for writing poetry. He will be remembered by his family as quite the character, especially how he always talked to the kids in his “Donald Duck” voice, telling crazy stories and bad jokes, teaching Judo moves to whoever would pay attention and cooking steak and gourmet meals for his dog Brutus.
John was proceeded in death by his parents and his nephew, Robert Burkhardt (Pancho).
Survivors include five children; Janet, Jody, John, and step-daughters Sissy and Tracy; two sisters, Billie Nelle Plaster and husband
Johnny Edgar, Bobbie Jeane Plaster Claborn; several nieces and nephews and his beloved four-legged companion Brutus.
