Buck John T. McFarlin

John T. (Buck) McFarlin, age 84 of Flat, passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2022.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 7, 2022 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with James Baize officiating.  Interment will follow at Mound Cemetery.  The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 6th, at the funeral home.

Buck was born on June 25, 1937 in the Mound community.  He was the son of the late Johnnie and Stella Barnard McFarlin.  He went to school in Flat, until his senior year, graduating from Gatesville High School in 1955.  He attended Temple Junior College, graduating in 1957 earning an associates degree.  He married Betty Jean Jones on August 24, 1957.  He taught school in Flat, Turnersville and Oglesby, where he coached six man football teams.  During this time, he attended Mary-Hardin Baylor University.  He began a career at Ft. Hood as a civil service employee in 1966, working at south Ft. Hood for the Department of Information Management.  He retired with 39 years of service at Ft. Hood in 2005.  Buck was a farmer and rancher all of his life.  He loved the land and taking care of his cattle.  He was an active member and deacon of First Baptist of Flat.  He was a board member for many years, for the Mound Cemetery Association.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Hulon and Jimmy Carlton McFarlin.

Buck is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty McFarlin; daughter, Tamie Gebert and husband, Rodney; son, Jamie McFarlin and wife, Judy; brother, Sam McFarlin and Teresa Talamantz; sister, Ellen Ann Gummelt; six grandchildren, Stacie Love, Natalie Wood and husband, Cody, Randi McFarlin, Cody McFarlin and wife, Krista, Lex-Anne Vogel and husband, Barrett, Rhett Richardson and wife, Megan; and twelve great grandchildren.
