Bill Herring, age 79, of Gatesville, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 14, 2018 at Scott’s Funeral Home, with Minister Loyd Hall and Rev. Wray Nunn officiating. Burial will follow at Ballard Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Bill was born June 29, 1939 in Gatesville to the late John W. (Bill) Herring, Sr. and Dovie Hubble Herring. He grew up and attended school in Gatesville. After high school, Bill went to work on a pipe line and road boring crew near Abilene. In 1960, Bill purchased his first backhoe and started his own construction business. He worked in and around construction for the majority of his working career. Bill also went to work for and retired from TDCJ, as a maintenance supervisor. Bill loved his family and his animals. He loved to piddle and tending to things. Bill liked to ride on the cattle truck with Doug and travel to different places. He never met a stranger and will be truly missed.Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Doris Watson Herring; parents; granddaughter, Kayla Campbell; brother, Floyd Herring; and sister, Helen Herring. Bill is survived by, daughters, Joanie Campbell and husband, Mike, and Ginger Belknap; son, Doug Herring and wife, Cheryl; eight grandchildren, Jason, Becca, Megan, Maeci, Kolbie, Adreanna, Philip, and David; and numerous great-grandchildren.Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
