Joseph Louis Piller, age 88 of Gatesville, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 26, at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville with Rev. Bruce Cox officiating. Joseph’s family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
“Joe” was born in NYC to Irene and Joseph Piller on June 12, 1935. He met and married the love of his life, Helen Elizabeth Egger in Queens, NY on June 23, 1956. Joe was an entrepreneur at heart. At a young age, he became the owner of Bumble Bee Auto Repair in the big city of Manhattan- catering to an impressive clientele. Joe’s career over the years was nothing short of full. His mechanical skill, knowledge and expertise employed him as a head mechanic for the city of New York for over 20 years until he retired at age 65.
You would think that after living somewhere for over 65 years, it would define a person’s home- not for Joe. After retiring, he relocated with Helen to Gatesville, Texas. This was home! He loved the people, the pace and the warmth.
Joe’s passions were numerous- his most loved were fishing, boating, marksmanship and of course the New York Yankees!
He was active in the Coast Guard, Mound Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Mound Cowboy Church and he made himself available to lend a hand whenever it was needed in the community.
Joe was much loved by his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with all of them.
Joe is survived by his wife, Helen Elizabeth Piller; brother, John Piller and wife, Pat; sister, Helen Adamcik; children, Debbie Piller; Joseph Piller, and wife Janie; Diane Heavin and husband, Gary; Joanne Soehnlein and husband, Mark; grandchildren, Brandon Heavin, and wife Amy; Virginia Heavin; Jennifer Miller and husband, Chris; Jason Agado; Mandi Fisher and husband, Neal; Kristine Palady, and husband, Jaryn; Shilah Heavin; Kaitlyn Soehnlein; Samantha Soehnlein; Dylan, and wife Lindsay; Alex; Claude; Jared; and Karlee who passed away December 18, 2015; great grandchildren, Madison, Kenna, Ian, Brodie, Blayze, Slayton, Byron, Sofia, Caymbri, Mayah, Luna, Lorenzo, Cruz, Elana and Lilly, Evan, Aubrey, Kinsley and Cora.
