Joyce M. Rhoades

Joyce Rhoades, age 66 of Gatesville, passed away surrounded by her family on the morning of September 2, 2021.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at St. John Lutheran Church in Coryell City. Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 4 - 6 PM Monday, September 6, 2021 at the funeral home.

Joyce was born on May 17, 1955 in Clifton to Bennie Schraeder and Mildred Helm Schraeder. She grew up and attended school in Gatesville, graduating with the class of 1974. She married Kenneth Rhoades on October 1, 1977 in Coryell City. Joyce worked for the Gatesville Independent School District for 30 years with the majority of her time being on the Primary School campus. She loved to bake sweets and treats that she would bring up to her friends at the school. Joyce also enjoyed quilting and cross stitching, as well as collecting hummingbird ornaments. What brought her the most joy in life was her family, especially her five grandchildren, and attending their many sporting and school UIL activities.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Kenneth Rhoades; parents, Mildred and Bennie Schraeder.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Lisa Baker and husband, Adam; sons, Jake Rhoades and wife, Brandy and step-children, Kevin Rhoades, and Tracy Barton and husband, John; five grandchildren, Kyle, Jacob, Cameron, Zoie, Areona and Kyler; three sisters, Betty Ayers, Janet Ayres and Sandra Brown; two brothers, Donald Schraeder and wife, Lydia and Larry Schraeder and wife, Jodi and many nieces and nephews.
