Leola Hennig Shoaf, age 89, of the King community, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018 in Gatesville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church of Gatesville, with Rev. Stephen Schmidt officiating. Interment will be at a later date at King Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Scott’s Funeral Home.Leola was born on March 3, 1929 in Clyde, Texas to the late Herbert and Lillian Mueller Hennig. She grew up in Coryell City and Osage, graduating from Crawford High School in 1946 as Valedictorian of her class. She married John R. Shoaf of King on November 17, 1947. She graduated from Mary-Hardin Baylor University in 1978, with a degree in Education and taught for the Gatesville Independent School District for 30 years. During her teaching career, she had an impact on the lives of many children. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Gatesville. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Shoaf; and sisters, Florene Westerfield and Marilyn Lippe.Leola is survived by her sons, John R. Shoaf and wife, Ginny of Gatesville, Ken Shoaf of Gatesville, Bill Shoaf and wife, Beverly of Gatesville, Jack Shoaf and wife, Sherri of Bynum; daughter, Tana Free and husband, J. of Salado; twin sister, Viola Truss of Stephenville; sister, Carolyn Scott and husband, Clarence of Crawford; grandchildren, Rylee Shoaf and wife, Crysee; Kari Sweeney and husband, Terry, Cade Shoaf, Tate Shoaf, Laci Martin and husband, Chad, McKenzie Shoaf, Wyatt Shoaf, Kaydee Free, Cooper Free, and Kensley Free; and 15 great-grandchildren.Memorials may be made to King Cemetery Association, 601 CR 135, Gatesville, TX 76528.
