Lewis H. Bright, age 81 of Flat, passed away on the morning of September 19, 2021 in Gatesville. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Flat. Lewis was born on April 17, 1940 in Fort Scott, KS to the late Albert M. Bright and Margaret Noblett Bright. For years Lewis told everyone he wasn’t born in Texas but he got here as quickly as he could. At the age of 17 Lewis joined the Army. He spent over 20 years serving his country in Vietnam, Germany, Thailand and Okinawa. He spent 12 years of his service stationed at Fort Hood. In 1972 Lewis met Lillie Wilkins. They were married on October 26, 1973 in Belton. Coming from a very small family upbringing, this marriage introduced Lewis to the “Wilkins Clan” and a whole new side to family. Lewis and Lillie welcomed a daughter, Angela in 1974. Lewis was an avid sports fan, who loved watching baseball. He also enjoyed attending his grandkids sporting events. In the later years Lewis found a love of walking. He walked seven miles on his 80th birthday and followed that up the next day with eight miles. Still walking up to three or four miles a day up until a few months ago. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and three brothers. Lewis is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lillie Wilkins Bright; daughter, Angela Bright; grandchildren, Lewis Andrew, Mary Elane, Kalie Summer; great-grandchildren, Darien Doss, Chloe Mikuda and Aria Taylor.
