Mahlon "Bud" Lee Massingill Sr.

Mahlon Lee Massingill Sr. “Bud”, age 89 of Gatesville, Texas, passed away in Gatesville on Friday, December 24, 2021.

Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Thursday, December 30th, 2021 at Murphree Cemetery in Evant, Texas. 

Bud was born September 8, 1932, to the late Ira Isaac Massingill and Wilferd Lee Moore Massingill.  He was the second oldest of eleven siblings and grew up in Central Texas.  Bud married the love of his life, Dixie Ruth Hopson on June 9, 1951, in Gatesville, Texas.  Bud and Dixie spent many years traveling the state of Texas as he followed his career in ironworking.  They eventually settled in Everman, Texas where they reared their two sons, Mahlon Lee Jr. and Gary Dean. 

Eventually, they became the proud grandparents of Mahlon Lee “Trey” Massingill and Laurel Massingill-Bartlett.  Five great-grandchildren were eventually added to the family.

Bud was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years; brothers Norris Wayne (Sonny) Massingill, John Robert (Rob) Massingill, Ira Massingill (Junior); and his sister, Billie Jean Massingill Bond.

He is survived by sons, Mahlon, and wife, Alicia of Godley, Texas, and Gary of Gatesville, Texas; grandson Trey and wife, Shawn of Cleburne, Texas; granddaughter Laurel and husband, Scott of Godley, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Dillon, Tanner and Maycie Massingill, Kolby Bartlett and Maddox Bartlett; and siblings:  Raymond Earl Massingill, Sybil Massingill Beaty, Ned Massingill, Ted Massingill, Joye Massingill Thackston, and Lynn Massingill, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  In the weeks prior to his homegoing, Bud expressed to the family that he knew in whom he believed and is now at rest and at peace with his heavenly father.  Bud, also known as dad and Papa (Paw-Paw) was loved and will be greatly missed, but “. . .we do not grieve as those without hope. . .” (1 Thes. 4:13)
