Margerie Oney, age 91 of Gatesville, went to join her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 11, 2023 in Gatesville.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. David Crosby officiating. Interment will follow at Pearl Cemetery. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Margerie Nell Oney was born on March 19, 1931 in Coleman County, Texas to the late John Nugent and Louisa Beth Jameson Thompson. She graduated from Coleman High School in 1949 and Durham’s Business College in Ft. Worth. She married Vance Oney on August 12, 1955 in Coleman. She worked at Bowen Drug Store in Coleman for 10 years as their bookkeeper. They resided most of their married lives in Monahans, where she worked as a purchasing agent for Ward Memorial Hospital. After their retirement, they moved to Llano in 1989, where they resided until moving to Gatesville in 2006.
Marge loved the Lord and has been a devoted and active member of the Baptist church her entire life and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gatesville. After their retirement, she and her husband were active in the Texas Baptist Men Retiree Builders, participating in the construction and expansion of over 150 churches over a 20 year period throughout the United States. She had many hobbies, most notably oil painting, and was very accomplished at Texas and Rocky Mountain landscapes. She also enjoyed gardening and was a fantastic cook. Her joy and delight in her later years were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Madeline Crabaugh, Mary Alice Wily and Imogene Lichnovsky.
Margerie is survived by her husband of 67 years, Vance Oney; sons, Stephen Oney, Bruce Oney and wife, Ling; grandchildren, Jeromie Oney, Kimberly Bates, Melissa Giacona, Brian Oney, Preston Oney; and great grandchildren, Caylee, Daylin, Alana, Mila and Pete; and numerous nieces and nephews.
