Marion “Edgar” Pierce of Turnersville, TX died on August 6, 2020 at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple, TX at the age of 89. A visitation will be held at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville, TX on Sunday, August 9, 2020 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. A gathering of family and friends will be on Saturday, August 15, 2020 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Service to honor Egdar’s life will be at 11:00 AM in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Turnersville Community Center, c/o Randy and Dorothy Wagoner, 210 County Road 232, Gatesville, TX 76528. Due to the Covid-19 crisis that we are currently in, all visitors to both funeral homes are required to wear a face mask or covering and practice social distancing under orders from State and County officials. Edgar was born in Port Arthur, Texas on October 22, 1930 to Ralph E. Pierce and Myrna Cude Pierce. Edgar was a member of the Methodist faith. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, TX in 1949. Edgar enrolled at Lamar University after high school but his college education was interrupted by the Korean War. He enlisted in the United State Air Force in January 1951 and served his county proudly for four years. Edgar was a Senior Airborne Radio Operator and flew over 30 B-29 bomber missions in Korea. After he returned from the war he once again enrolled at Lamar and received his bachelor’s degree in business in 1958. He was a proud Lamar Cardinal. Edgar worked at Texas Instruments for over 30 years, spending some of those years in El Salvador. He lived for several years in Dallas and after retiring in 1989 he moved to Turnersville, TX where he made his home until his death. Edgar was an avid outdoorsman, gun enthusiast and animal lover. He loved his family and friends and always had a warm, positive outlook on life. We will miss his sharp mind and wonderful sense of humor. Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Connie Pierce, his most beloved aunt, Lily “Tootsie” Clymer and many other dear aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is survived by his cousins, Kathy Walters and her husband, Wade of Port Acres, TX; Lily Fanning and her husband, Bob of Houston, TX; their children, Ashley Arceneaux, Brittany Peltier, Robert Fanning and Brooke Fanning; and Kathy and Wade’s granchildren, Elizabeth Peltier, Avery Arceneaux, Madelyn Aceneaux and soon-to-arrive Mason Arceneaux. He is also survived by his wonderful friends, Kent and Andrea Brown of Turnersville, TX as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
