Mary Simpson

Mary Simpson, age 60 of Gatesville, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Cedar Ridge Church of Christ with Minister Deral McWhorter officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Restland Cemetery.

Mary Jonelle Simpson was born on January 11, 1964 to the late Joe and Norma McDonald Preston in Fort Worth, Texas. As a child, she moved often, as her father pastored many different Church of Christ congregations around the state. She married Lonnie Simpson on October 15, 1985 in San Diego, California, where Lonnie was currently serving in the United States Navy. For the next several years, she and Lonnie moved to various parts of the country before settling down in Gatesville. She was a stay-at-home mom who loved to care for her family. She enjoyed cooking, making most recipes from scratch. She also enjoyed decorating for the holidays, gardening, looking after her chickens, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Cedar Ridge Church of Christ. 

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, and sister-in-law, Debbie Preston. She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Lonnie Simpson; daughter, Amanda Barker; grandchildren, Dusty Joe Simpson, Heather Jonelle Cantu, Texas Augustine Matta, and Serenity Evelyn Matta; brothers, Joey Preston and Donald Preston; sisters, Cheryl Crowley and Connie Gass; and many nieces and nephews.
