Joyce Bond

Mattie Joyce Bond, a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 24th, 2024, at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas, at the age of 89.

Born in Coryell County, near what is now known as Ft. Cavazos, to Elbert and Hazel Collier, Joyce grew up filled with a spirit of creativity and a passion for life. She graduated from Aleman High School in 1951, a period that also marked the beginning of a lifelong romance. Joyce met Charles A. Bond, the love of her life, on a blind date, and they married in July 1951. Together, they built a warm, loving home in Gatesville, Texas, and raised their four children, instilling in them the values of love, hard work, and integrity.

A woman of many talents and interests, Joyce was known for her exceptional ceramics, sewing, and baking skills, often sharing her creations with family and friends. Her hands were rarely still, always engaged in crafting something beautiful or delicious. A lover of travel and exploration, Joyce often found joy in planning trips and immersing herself in new places and experiences. Alongside Charles, she enjoyed polka dancing, fishing, and engaging in spirited domino games. Their shared hobbies and adventures were a testament to their enduring love and companionship.

Joyce’s love and legacy continue through her family. She was preceded in death be her beloved husband of 63 years, Charles, her grandson Trent Fruge, and her parents. She is survived by her brother, Dale Collier, and her sister, Lou Ann Unger. Left to honor her memory are her children: Rodney Bond and his wife Tanya; daughters Cindy Wright, Barbara Burson from Gatesville, and Sandra Culpepper from Tyler. Her legacy also lives on through her nine grandchildren- Leslie Stryker, Sean Gilson, Stephen Gilson, Scott Gilson, Sarah Brown, Juddson Culpepper, Gabe Guidry, Carlee Leger, and Zane Hamons, as well as her 19 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to her life.

As we mourn the loss of a remarkable woman, we also celebrate her journey and feel blessed to know that she is with her Savior. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew her. Her family invites friends and loved ones to join in celebrating her life at graveside services to be held on Saturday, January 27th, at 2:00 p.m. at Greenbriar Cemetery.
