Mercedes Rodriguez

Mercedes Rodriguez, age 72 of Gatesville, passed away in Waco on the morning of August 30, 2019. Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.

Mercedes was born on June 30, 1947 in Chihuahua, Chihuahua to the late Pedro Chacon and Julia Urenda-Chacon. She grew up and attended school in Mexico before graduating and becoming a teacher.  She worked as a teacher for about five years before moving to Gatesville.  Mercedes worked as a seamstress at Walls and retired with 30 plus years of service. She was an avid gardener and also loved knitting and crocheting.  She was a kidney transplant recipient and was able to sustain her kidney for 11 years. Mercedes loved her family and her grandkids were the light in her eyes.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Emilio Rodriguez; son, Pedro “Pete” Rodriguez.

Mercedes is survived by four daughters, Patricia GaribayBartolo and husband, Cesar, Elsa Wright and husband, Weldon, Kelly David and husband, Michael, and Julia Helms; grandchildren, Sarah Rodriguez, Emilio, Michael, Patricia, and Kayla Rae GaribayBartolo, Hunter and Duncan Wright, Priscilla, Allon, Isabella, and Samuel David, and Remmington Rodriguez.
