Nita Jane Ballard

Nita Ballard, age 94, passed away on January 22, 2025, in Gatesville. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 27, at Scott’s Funeral Home.

Inita (Nita) Jane Ballard was born on November 13, 1930, in Colorado City, Texas to the late Edgar and Stella Cox Herrington. Nita and her family moved to Pearl when she was 13 and she graduated from Pearl High School in 1948. Nita met her husband Bertis Lynn Ballard while attending school in Pearl and they married in 1952. Nita and Bert made their home in Pearl where they raised their two children, Mark and Tami. From 1976 to 1992, Nita and Bert owned and operated the Ballard Processing Plant in Pearl. 

Nita enjoyed spending time working in her garden and spending time in nature. She loved climbing the mountain near her house to search for arrowheads and fossils. Nita fed swarms of hummingbirds and cardinals every year and would never let a guest in her home leave hungry. 

Nita was preceded in death by her husband and five siblings.

She is survived by her son, Mark Ballard and wife Barbara; daughter, Tami Ballard; grandson, Bryan Ballard and wife, Kari; three great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
