Ollie Ellis, age 84 of Gatesville, passed away on the morning of July 13, 2020. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Greenbriar Cemetery with Brother Kurt Fuessel officiating.

Ollie was born on April 19, 1936 in Fitzgerald, GA to the late Ricky Foy and Clara Mae Conally Ellis. He grew up and attended school in Georgia graduating with the class of 1954. After high school he joined the United States Army where he served for two years before being honorably discharged in 1957.  It was during a “Pot Luck for Troops” at Mt. Baptist Church that he met the love of his life Darlene Blanchard. They spent almost 63 wonderful years together.  Ollie continued to serve on Ft. Hood as a civil servant for over 40 years in procurement. In his spare time Ollie could be found mowing his own yard and taking care of the yard at Mt. Baptist Church.  Ollie was ordained as a deacon in 1962 at Mt. Baptist Church.  Ollie’s family was his heart. He would have your back no matter what and was quick to let you know if you stepped out of line. He also loved spending time walking the toy aisles at Wal-Mart with his grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard Ellis, Thomas Ellis; and sister, Patricia Ellis.

Ollie is survived by his wife, Darlene Ellis; son, Doug Ellis and wife, Sabrina; daughter, Stacey Smith and husband, Shane; grandchildren, Morgan Adams and husband, Charlie, Barton Ellis, Landon Ellis, Allison Ellis, and Caden Ellis; Zoe Edwards, Hazlee Edwards, and Lucky Edwards Smith; brothers, J.R. Ellis, Ricky Ellis, and Robert Ellis and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
