The family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at the funeral home.
Ranzell was born on April 14, 1932, in Waco, Texas to Raymond and Iva Meeks. Ranzell was raised by his grandparents, R. E. and Clara Meeks on the Meeks Dairy.
A proud graduate of Gatesville High School in 1950, Ranzell was an athlete; he played football, participated in the choral club, and was a Golden Gloves boxer. Following high school, he served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, dedicating two years of his life to his country.
After his military service, Ranzell became the Athletic Director at the State School for Boys and later continued to serve his community as an Emergency Medical Technician and ambulance driver. His commitment to helping others was unwavering.
For over 48 years, Ranzell was a devoted member and deacon of Eastwood Baptist Church, where his genuine love for people was evident in every friendly conversation he initiated. In retirement, he cherished the moments spent RV traveling with his beloved wife and friends. Known for his warm smile, Ranzell was never seen without a pocket full of Werther’s Originals, a toothpick, and a caffeine-free Dr. Pepper in hand.
Ranzell is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Frankie Meeks; daughter, Julie Grubb; son, John Meeks; brother, Norris Meeks; sister, Ramona Young; granddaughter, Alex Montgomery and her husband William; granddaughter, Elizabeth Carren; and great-grandsons, Matthew and Austin Carren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eastwood Baptist Church.
