Raymond Eldor Wenzel, age 90, of Hamilton, passed away Friday, September 7, 2018 at Heartis Senior Care, Waco, TX, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 15, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church in Hamilton with Pastor Keith Reich officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery in Aleman. Visitation will be at St. John Lutheran Church from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 14, 2018.Raymond was born on January 20, 1928 in the Aleman Community, Hamilton County, Texas to the late Richard and Bertha Siems Wenzel. He attended school at the St. Paul Lutheran Church parochial school in Aleman and later transferred to the Aleman public school. He joined the U.S. Army in 1946 and was Honorably Discharged in 1948. On July 15, 1950, he married the love of his life, Emmalene (Maxine) Taylor, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. They lived their entire married life in Hamilton County.Raymond was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed ranching and farming in Hamilton County for over 70 years. He was also employed by Bert Schrank Gas Company for 19 ½ years and served as a Hamilton County Commissioner for 12 years. He and Maxine had many close friends and relatives and loved to engage in ‘hot games’ of 42 and 84 dominoes. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Hamilton where he served as elder for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mack Taylor of Carlton, TX; brother, Melvin Wenzel; and sister, Lilly Voges.Raymond is survived by his wife of 68 years, Maxine Wenzel; two daughters, Brenda Faubion and husband, Tommy, and Karen Grisham and husband, Robert, all of Gatesville; six grandchildren, Jason Faubion, Shelly Boyd and husband, Torrey, Carrie Jones and husband, Joe, Jeffrey Grisham and wife, Jennifer, Melissa Wiecker and husband, Randy, and Lindsey Brindle and husband, Jacob; and 14 great-grandchildren, Macie, Sarah, Josie, Hunter, Jed, Cooper, Ethan, Gracie, Noah, Nate, Claire, Jaxon, Abby, and Emma; brother, Clarence Wenzel of Bedford; sister-in-law, Lou Rovetto of North Richland Hills; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the St. John Lutheran Church, 122 Cheyenne Mesa, Hamilton, Texas 76531 or to the charity of your choice.Pallbearers are grandsons, Jason Faubion and Jeffrey Grisham; and grandsons-in-law, Torrey Boyd, Joe Jones, Randy Wiecker, and Jacob Brindle.
