Rev. James C. (Jim) Boling went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom he loved and served so well, on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, surrounded by his loving family at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Thresa Lawson and Rev. Joseph Lawson officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Restland Cemetery in Gatesville. Visitation with Jim’s family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 22nd at the funeral home
Jim was born on April 27, 1938, in Post, Texas, to the late J. C. and Maudie Lee Hickson Boling. He lived and attended schools in Azle, Waco and Odessa. He married Carolyn White in 1962 and from that union they were blessed with three children, Tammie, Jimmy and Angie. He joined the U.S. Army at the young age of 17 and served our country for 21 years until his retirement in 1977. During his military career, he received numerous awards to include the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Infantry Badge, serving in Alaska, Germany, Panama, two tours in Vietnam and Korea. In 1972 he married the love of his life, Joyce Marie Van Lawson and took Joyce’s son, Vance as his own. After his retirement from the Army in 1977, they moved to Gatesville, where he pastored for nearly 40 years. After a fruitful, blessed Pastorate, they built a new home on their son’s farm in Mount Calm, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Hazle; and brother, Bobby.
Jim is survived by his wife, Joyce Boling; sons, Jimmy Boling, Vance Lawson and wife, Thresa; daughters, Angie Fay and husband, Bob, Tammie Rutledge and husband, Phil; three sisters, Vickie Lipsey and husband, Ronnie, Beverly Wicks, Linda Sloan and husband, David; brother, Mike Jackson and wife, Dinah; five grandchildren, Melisha Adankpo and husband, Greg, Daniel Lawson and wife, Stacey; Joseph Lawson and wife, Bethany; Joshua Lawson and wife, Jenny; and Victoria Rutledge. Jim’s greatest remaining treasures and the real apples of his eye are his fourteen great grandchildren, Vance Steven, Aubrielle, Abigail, Enam, Asher, Layla, Samuel, Judah, Jack, Ellie, Noah, Bo, Delali, and Emma.
