Rhonda was born on July 25, 1966, to the late Rufus Henry Earl and Juanell Gilmore Earl, in Fort Worth. She grew up in Fort Worth, graduating from Castleberry High School in 1984. She then attended junior college in Fort Worth Texas, graduating with two Associate Degrees in Business Administration. She married Michael Torres and together they raised his children, Christina and J. R. (John) Torres. Rhonda worked at Home Depot for fourteen years in Fort Worth. She loved her job and customers, always greeting them with her beautiful smile and a sweet hello.
Rhonda was a beautiful girl that loved her Gilmore family! The family would come to Turnersville and stay the weekends, sometimes staying for a couple of weeks. She loved having this special time with her mama and daddy, coming down and visiting with everyone around Turnersville. She talked of going down to Hazel Latham’s home and visiting with Hazel, eating cookies. She loved going to their place on Cave Creek with her beloved granddaddy, Douglas Gilmore, and checking the cows and riding around the place. Rhonda and her daddy Rufus, also spent many hours on the Cave Creek place. One of her fondest memories is when her daddy let her drive down in the bottom by herself and she ran into the fence. She told him what happened, and he took her down there with fencing supplies and she had to fix it herself! Special friends and caregivers, Christina Chavez and Sam Dickson loved taking care of her. They included Rhonda in their daily life and holiday celebrations. With tears in their eyes, Christina said, “she was a part of our family” and Sam said, “she was a sweet and special lady”. Rhonda always had a smile on her face and sweet words for everyone she met.
Rhonda was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Rufus Henry Earl and Juanell Gilmore Earl.
She is survived by stepchildren, Christina Torres and J. R. (John) Torres; special friends and caregivers, Christina Chavez and Sam Dickens, Daniel Stevens; and many cousins and extended family that loved her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made in Rhonda’s name to the Scottish Rite for Children, https://secure3.convio.net/tsrh/site/Donation, or Turnersville Community Center, P.O. Box 701, Gatesville, TX 76528.
