Richard Edward Daze

Richard Edward Daze, age 99, went to be with the Lord on December 12, 2023. He was born in Mount Vernon, New York on April 11, 1924.  Richard grew up in Mount Vernon and married his wife Doris DeCortin Daze in 1949.  He graduated from Columbia University, New York, N.Y with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He was employed by The M.W. Kellogg  Company for over 35 years in New York City and Houston, Texas, where he held various engineering and management positions. At one time he was Senior Vice President of the Heat Research Division of Kellogg, designing and building oil refineries and petrochemical plants worldwide. Richard and Doris had the opportunity to visit many foreign countries in connection with this career.

Richard served on the American Petroleum Institute’s committee on Mechanical Equipment. He authored several technical articles published in “Hydrocarbon Processing” professional journal and presented several papers before the Institutes of Electrical Engineers and Chemical Engineers. He was a participant and contributor to the book “Technology Harvest” (Gulf Publishing Co.), a story of the technological development of large tonnage plants that helped feed the developing nations of the world. He was awarded lifetime memberships in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers.

Richard was an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Houston.  His hobbies included travel, woodworking, and amateur radio.  As a “HAM” radio operator, he held an Extra Class license from the Federal Communications Commission (N5ATV) and made many contacts worldwide.

Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Doris Daze, in 2004.  He is survived by devoted sons Donald and wife Amy of Gatesville, and Lawrence of Houston.
