Richard “Rick” Barton Sherrick, age 65, of Gatesville, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hemmeline Cemetery.Rick was born on June 30, 1953 at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland to Richard Barnett Sherrick and Fern Louise DeBoy Sherrick. His family moved to Joppatown, Maryland in 1964, and then moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1970. He was an Eagle Scout with the American Legion Post 29 in Glendale, Arizona. He graduated from Washington High School in Phoenix, Arizona in 1973. He was awarded a full scholarship to DeVry University. Although he was tested in high school to have a 165 IQ, he was not bookish. Instead, he loved to read technical pamphlets and instruction booklets. He joined the US Army during the Vietnam Era and was a member of the American Legion Post 42 in Gatesville. He married Betty Marie Hartung and later divorced. They had one daughter, Kelly Hartung. He was a small engine lawn mower repairman. Rick loved to “tinker” and invent things. One of his many hobbies was being a Ham Radio operator with call sign KC5TSF. For employment, he wore many hats, working for Copperas Cove ISD as a bus driver, AJ Lawn Mower Repair as a repairman, at Northrup Gunman at Fort Hood, and drove for JB Hunt as a long haul truck driver. He worshiped at the Highway to Heaven Biker Church, loved Jesus, and was Born-Again.He was preceded in death by his parents.Rick is survived by his fiancée, Celeste Drake; daughter, Kelly Hartung; brothers, David Sherrick and wife, Gina, Paul Sherrick and wife, Cheri, and Vernon Haas and wife, Stella; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, especially Louis Reineke.Memorials may be made to Highway to Heaven Biker Church, 1103 E.
