Royce Chambers

Royce Chambers, age 74 of the Bee House community, passed into the arms of the Lord, on Monday, August 19, 2019 in Gatesville.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. John Conner, III officiating.  Private family interment will be at Bee House Cemetery.  The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Royce was born on March 19, 1945 in Gatesville, to the late Monroe and Vella Mae Thetford Chambers.  He went to school in Purmela and Gatesville, graduating from Gatesville High School in 1962.  As a young adult, he worked for Black’s Grocery on the square in Gatesville.  He married Mary Conner on December 26, 1965 in Gatesville.  In 1972 they moved to Corsicana, where they resided for 43 years.  He worked as the parts manager for several Ford Dealerships.  In 1990, he began working for Dealers Electrical Supply in Corsicana, until his retirement in 2012.  After retirement, they moved back to the Bee House community.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Corsicana. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dolliva Ann Huckabee; mother and father-in-law, John H. and Merle Franks Conner; his dear cousins Edward and Beulah Comer, that helped raise him after losing his mother at a young age.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Conner Chambers; daughter, Shelly Walker and husband, David; son, Jeff Chambers and wife, Glenda; four grandchildren, Ashley Walker, Kyle Walker, Katie Chambers, Jaxson Chambers.  He is also survived by cousins, that were more like siblings, Joyce Comer Bundrant, Patsy Comer Garza, Paul Comer; brother-in-laws, Richard Conner and wife, Neta, Ross Conner and wife, Margaret, John Conner and wife, Gail, Bill Conner and wife, Jennifer; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
