Ruth Scott

Ruth Scott, age 99 of Gatesville, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023.

Private graveside services will be held at Restland Cemetery.

Mary Ruth Scott was born on March 26, 1924 in Wylie, Texas to the late Jasper Cora and Ethel Crawford Blasingame.  She married Olen B. Scott in 1941.  They lived in the Garland area most of their married lives.  She attended cosmetology college in the early 1940’s and owned and operated a salon and dress shop in Garland for many years.  They moved to Gatesville in 2010, to be near their daughter and son-in-law.  He preceded her in death in 2013.  After moving to Gatesville, she enjoyed playing Bridge, cooking, crocheting, and sewing. She was a member of Southside Assembly of God Church in Garland.

She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Larry E. Hughes in 2014.

She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Hughes; granddaughters, Misty Birdwell and Shelly Freidrich and husband, Marek; six great grandchildren, Taylor Birdwell, Ashley Birdwell, Matthew Birdwell, Jacob Birdwell, Joseph Freidrich, Rachel Freidrich; niece, Sue Cornil and husband, Warren, and numerous, nieces, nephews and cousins.
