Scott J. Bates

Scott Bates, age 54 of Oglesby, passed away on the evening of July 12, 2021.

A visitation with Memorial service is scheduled Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., with a Remembrance Memorial service taking place at 11:00 a.m.

Scott was born in Bennington, Vermont on March 9, 1967. He is the son of Joyce Gustavson and the late Leo Bates. He graduated from Gatesville High School in 1986. Scott was a longtime employee of Midway Transportation where he drove a truck for the last 30 years. 

He enjoyed hunting, working and operating heavy machinery, fishing and traveling the country. He will forever be remembered for his stories, over the top personality and his willingness to help those around him 

Scott is preceded in death by his father, Leo Bates; and sister, Lorie Shaffer.

Scott is survived by his mother, Joyce Gustavson of Bennington, Vermont; longtime partner and fiancé, Lupe White of Oglesby; son Mikel Bates and wife, Jennifer; two grandchildren Jase and Lilly Bates, all of Franklin, TX; daughter, Erica Bates and boyfriend, James Schoenrock of West, TX; brothers, Dusty Bates and wife, Dawn, Kris Bates and wife, Sandy, Lee Bates and wife, Marietta and Leo Bates; sisters, Joyce Bates, Jenny Wulff and husband, Robert, Ava Shorey and husband, James; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
