Sherry Farney

Sherry Farney, age 77 of Gatesville, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023 in Waco.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow at Greenbriar Cemetery. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to services at the funeral home. 

Sherry Dell Farney was born on March 17, 1946 in Nacogdoches. She was the first-born of twins to the late John and Aline Popejoy Clay.  She grew up in Kosse, Marlin and Chilton. As children, she and her sister Sheila, were always known as “The Twins.”  She was married to the late Roy Farney, and they had two children, Rodney Clark and Stacey Lanell.  Early in her career, she worked in the pharmacy at Coryell Memorial Hospital. She later worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice at the Hilltop Unit in the Vocational Department, until her retirement.  After her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and taking care of them.  Her grandchildren were the love of her life, and she would drop anything to take care of their needs.  In Sherry’s last years, she cherished the time with her friends Donnie Pool and Carrie Guderian.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Curtis Adams; twin sister, Sheila Lednicky, sister, Barbara Harrison and a brother, Bobby Higgins.

Sherry is survived by her children, Rodney Farney, Stacey Blackman, Clark Acree and wife, Christi; grandchildren, Randi Farney, Riley Register and husband, Reese, Lucas Farney, Sage Benson and husband, Tannon, Noah Scruggs, Ethan Acree and wife, Paige, Emily Acree, Nate Acree; and three great grandchildren.
