It is with incredible sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Stanley D. Jones on October 19, 2023. He was a wonderful dad, husband, son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Scott’s Funeral Home with Pastor Stephen Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow at Davidson Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Stanley was born on October 28, 1935 in Limeton, Virginia to Charlie B. and Irma Kathelle Jones. He loved his younger brother Doug and sister Connie and would positively beam with pride when discussing all their accomplishments.
A fortunate Army posting in Texas changed his life forever when he met Ruth Gilbreath in 1960. They quickly knew that their futures were intertwined and married that same year. After returning briefly to Virginia with his new bride, they determined Gatesville would be their permanent home, where he founded Gatesville Masonry. Stanley’s love for cars and masonry came early, but his expertise is still visible throughout the community.
Stanley and Ruth had 3 daughters, Melanie, Holly, and Heather, which they were exceptionally proud of. Stanley took a special interest in each of their activities, sports, and always had time to teach them something new.
Later in life, Stanley found a passion for music and joined Mike Kuzenka and The Country Sounds band. Some of Stanley's happiest memories were playing the drums and singing in their monthly Country Shows.
Stanley was a righteous man and showed his love of God through acts of service both at church and in the community. He was a devout member of the First United Methodist Church in Gatesville. Stanley’s affable disposition, humility, desire to entertain those around him, and his willingness to selflessly help others won’t soon be forgotten.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents Charlie B. and Kathelle Jones, his wife Ruth Gilbreath Jones, and his grandson, Mitchel Harper.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Doug and Mary Jones; his sister Connie Wakefield; his daughters, Melanie Jones and partner John Patric, Holly Robles and husband, Pete, and Heather Blair and husband, Kevin; his grandchildren Rachel Harper, George and Whitney Kinyaevskaya, Carson Russell, Peter and Shelby Robles, Mason Russell, and Reagan Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Aurora and August Kinyaevskaya.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 2600 East Main Street, Gatesville, Texas 76528.
