Steven Harry Witt, 57, of Gatesville passed away unexpectedly on October 10th, 2019. There will be a private memorial at a later date.
Steve was born on May 13th, 1962 to David and Alice Witt in Waco. Steve spent his early school years in Waco and finished high school in Gatesville. From a very young age, Steve was known for being an adventurous daredevil and was always into something that he should not have been. He loved riding dirt bikes, fast cars, and never backed down from a challenge. In 1986, Steve married his lifelong friend, Cindy Holden. In February 1987, Steve became a father to his only child, Racheal, who he very much adored. He spent over 20 years in the sheet metal and HVAC industry with Besco Metal Works in Waco and later finished his career with Makovy's Sheet Metal in Temple. After his career ended he continued to work as a handyman. Steve was a very dependable and hardworking man who was rarely unable to complete any task given to him. Throughout his life, he enjoyed all types of hunting, searching for arrowheads, horticulture, antiquing with his mother and sister, taking road trips, listening to rock and country music, classic cars, reading books about history and outlaws, writing poetry and short stories, and most of all spending time with his daughter and grandson. Steve was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Steve spent the majority of his life at his childhood home in King. He deeply loved that property and worked hard to maintain the house and land.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, David Witt, mother, Alice Guthrie, and maternal grandmother, Edith Bates.
Survivors include his daughter, Racheal Witt, of Whitney; grandson, Cooper Arthur, of Whitney; step-son, Edwin Holden; sister, Cindy Walts and husband Gary of Waco; brother, Mike Witt and wife Shirley of Crawford; many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
Steve will be remembered as a generous man that will be greatly missed by all of the lives he had touched during his lifetime.
In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations to assist in the cremation cost.
