Sue Durham

Sue Durham, age 81, of Gatesville, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. 

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025 at Scott’s Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen Schmidt officiating. The family will welcome visitors one hour prior to the service.  Interment will take place at Evergreen Bundrant Cemetery in Purmela.    

Sue was born to the late Clark and Ruth Snow Squyres on November 20, 1943, in Ireland, Texas.  She attended school in Jonesboro, where she graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1961. Following her graduation, she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she met her future husband, Mickey Owen Durham. They were united in marriage on August 13, 1964. Due to Micky's military career, the couple had the opportunity to live in various locations around the world before finally settling in Gatesville in 1977.

Sue dedicated many years to serving as a Warden’s Secretary for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and eventually retired.  She was also focused on her role as a homemaker, devoting her time to raising her three sons.  In addition to her family responsibilities, Sue found joy in quilting during her spare time.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.  

Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mickey; her parents; and her siblings, including brothers Melton Squyres and Lyndell Squyres, along with sisters Nadine Squyres Dunn, Frieda Squyres Simmons, Melba Squyres Rowe, Velda Squyres Dobbs and Ruth Squyres Green.

She is survived by her three sons: Terry Durham; Michael Durham and his wife, Cheryle; and Jason Durham. Sue also leaves behind her brothers, Dayle Squyres and Gayle Squyres; her grandchildren, Matthew Durham, Ashley Durham, and Brandon Durham and his wife, Kenzie; and a great-grandchild, Preston Durham.
