Susanna Koch Burleson

Susanna Koch Burleson, age 82, of Gatesville, passed away Friday, July 6, 2018.  Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Gatesville Masonic Cemetery. Susanna was born in Waco, TX, to the late Fredrick Herman and Jennette Foster Koch.  She grew up and attended school in Waco, graduating from Waco High in 1954.  Susanna was on one of the last buses to leave downtown Waco on May 11, 1953 before the tornado struck downtown Waco.  In 1955, she married Robert J. Walker in Waco, TX.  After her marriage to Robert, she worked for a short time at South Western Drug in Waco.  Susanna married Jim Burleson on August 5, 1967, in Waco, TX.  They moved to Gatesville in 1971, where Susanna worked as Jim’s office manager in his surveying business.  She worked and helped at Red Cross Blood Drives for 30 plus years, and also volunteered at the museum in Gatesville.  Susanna was a member of First Baptist Church in Gatesville.  Susanna was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Jim Burleson, in 2009; her parents; stepson, Dr. James D. Burleson; and brothers, Sunny and David Koch. Susanna is survived by her son, Doug Walker; sister, Nancy Chambers of Trenton, S.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Memorials may be made to the Coryell Museum and Historical Center, P.O.
