Terry Balzen, age 67 of Gatesville, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2023 in Gatesville.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 7, 2023 at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 6th at Scott’s Funeral Home. Terry’s family encourages anyone attending the visitation, that they dress casually and adorn their favorite sports team.
Terry Lynn Balzen was born on September 6, 1955 in Goldthwaite, to the late Eddie and Pat Holland Balzen. He attended school in Gatesville and was in the Class of 1975. He entered the United States Army in 1975, serving for three years until being honorably discharged. He then entered the Texas Army National Guard in 1979 and was called back to active duty, serving one tour in Iraq. He worked at M.A.T.E.S. as a mechanic, until his retirement in 2008. He also worked in construction for Odell Geer in Temple. He married Michele Gould on May 5, 1989. Terry enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys, wrestling and playing 42 Dominoes. He loved his dog “Izzy” and playing with his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, dad, brother and Papaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marilynn Holden; father-in-law, Marty Gould; brother-in-law, Floyd Davis; and two nephews, Brandon Holden and Cody Gould.
Terry is survived by his wife of 34 years, Mickey Balzen; children, Shane, Jacob and Amanda Balzen, Amanda Lowell and husband, Jeremy; sister, Sandy Easley and husband, Randy; grandchildren, Aliyha Balzen, Izaak Durbin, Emma Lowell; mother-in-law, Sara Gould; sister-in-law, Sharon Gould Davis; brother-in laws, Mike Gould and wife, Monica, Matt Gould and wife, Carolyn; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
