Terry Rex Huse of Gatesville, TX passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 29, 2021. He was 78. A memorial service will be held at the Gatesville First United Methodist Church in Gatesville, TX on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a private burial at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX. Born on January 26, 1943 in St. Augustine, FL, Rex was the son of Terry A. Huse and Carolyn Anz Huse. He grew up in Texhoma, TX and was a graduate of Texhoma High School, Class of 1961. He attended college at Panhandle State University, where he enrolled in Army ROTC. After graduating, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant and served in Vietnam as a pilot where he attained the rank of Captain and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and numerous Air Medals. Rex moved to Gatesville in 1973, and worked as Manager of the CO-OP before starting his own business, Salado Fine Woodworks. It was there that he worked making handcrafted furniture until his retirement. After he retired, he loved working on his 34 foot Chris-Craft wooden boat. Rex is survived by his wife of 58 years, Charla Brown Huse; sons, David Huse and wife Denise McFadden-Huse; and Steve Huse; sister, Voncille Hale and husband Herb Hale; brother, Dale Huse and wife Vicki Huse; grandchildren, Kaylie Huse and fiancé Caleb Ortega, Canon Huse, and Daniel Huse; in addition to several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Boys and Girls Club of Gatesville or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
