Vennis Mensch

Vennis Irvin Mensch, age 100 of Gatesville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 19, 2021.

Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Live Oak Baptist Church.  The family will receive visitors one hour prior to services at the church.  Private interment will be at Gatesville City Cemetery.

Vennis was born on September 4, 1921 in the Flint Creek community of Coryell County, to the late Irvin and Vessie Ketcham Mensch.  He grew up in the Flat area and graduated from Flat High School.  He served in the Army Air Corp. from August 22, 1942 to April 6, 1946, serving in the China-Burma-India Theater.  After his discharge, he married Joyce Marie VanDyke on June 16, 1946 in Gatesville.  They placed their membership at Live Oak Baptist Church and were dedicated, serving members for over 60 years.  Vennis was a deacon of the church since 1963, where he loved serving the Lord, teaching Sunday School and RA’s. He loved helping people and was readily available when there was a need.  He made everyone feel special and was loved and respected by all. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce on March 3, 2015; brother, Otha (Monk) Mensch; sister, Rozell VanDyke; and four great grandbabies.

Vennis is survived by his daughters, Connie Ginther and husband, Jerry of Gatesville, Linda Jones of Lorena; son, James Mensch and wife, JoAnn of Kempner; loving niece, Frances Norman and husband, Troy of Burleson; 10 grandchildren, Tracy Moak, Jimmy Jones, Janette James, Warren Ginther, Charles Mensch, David Jones, Cynthia James, Billy Mensch, Rebekah Westbrook, Jeremy Ginther; 32 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
