Wesley Lawson, age 74 of Gatesville, passed away at home on Saturday, October 21, 2023.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 30, 2023, at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
Wesley Dale Lawson was born on July 28, 1949 to the late Robert and Helen Moelling Lawson in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He attended school in Guthrie before moving to Big Spring, Texas during his childhood. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving in Vietnam. He received the Bronze Star Medal and numerous other awards during his military career before retiring in 1990. After retiring, Wesley worked for Dan Edwards at Edwards Oil Company and later for Trane Manufacturing. Wesley enjoyed life and loved being outdoors.
He met Shirley McKenzie and the two were married by Justice of the Peace Larry McDonald. They made their home in Gatesville, spending 28 wonderful years together.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Robert L. Lawson and David Lawson.
Wesley is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Monica McKenzie, and Theresa McKenzie Saenz; sisters, Janet Ferguson, Linda Sue Hays, and Carla Lawson; brothers, Terry Lawson and wife, Sandra, and Dennis Lawson and wife, Sharal; grandchildren, Frank Saenz, Austin Saenz, Chloe Howard, Ashley Somogyi, Christopher McCord, and Robyn Fatland; and several great-grandchildren.
Wesley’s family would like to thank Bluebonnet Hospice and their staff for the professional care and comfort that they provided.
