Jean Shaw, 84 of Gatesville, passed away Monday, January 7, 2019. Graveside services are scheduled for 10 AM, Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at Turnersville Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4 to 6 PM, January 8, 2019 at the funeral home. Jean was born December 12, 1934 in Monticello, Arkansas. She was the daughter of George W. Mears and Mary Etta Lankford Mears. Jean grew up in Arkansas and loved playing basketball in high school. She was a wonderful cook, amazing baker, devout Christian, and faithful servant who rose above her blindness. She learned to read braille and overcame the obstacles of blindness to lead a productive life as a wife, mom, and grandmother. She loved to tell stories about when she was a waitress in her younger years. She travelled all over the United States with her husband and family. She could guide you anywhere with landmarks and mile markers. She attended school in Glendale, Arkansas and graduated from Glendale High School. Her hobbies included talking with family, keeping up with all the kids and grandkids, reading braille, and listening to audio tapes. Jean was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Joyce and Mary; grandson, Bobby Baxter; and Bobby Shaw, former husband, companion, and best friend. Survivors include children; Allen Shaw and wife B. J, Pam Humes and husband Paul, Vickie Clarke and husband Dane, Rickie Alexander; grandchildren; Jackie Williams, Leslie Mooney, Laurri K Shaw, Vaden Shaw, Cutter Shaw, Tulle Alexander, Darin Romeo and Kenneth Clarke; 13 great grandchildren and one on the way; close niece Rachel Russell; best friend Betty Cooper; and all the wonderful, caring, staff and friends made at Hillside. Pallbearers are Allen Shaw, Paul Humes, Rickie Alexander, Vaden Shaw, Joby Mooney, Toby Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Cutter Shaw, Tulle Alexander, Darin Romeo and Sean Aguilar. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Turnersville Cemetery Association, 8100 FM 182, Gatesville, TX 76528.
